Ace of Branches/Ace of Wands print

This is a hand drawn and hand printed silkscreen print. It is on Stardream paper.

The first print I wanted to print in my new space at Atea to be the first of branches (wands) . The one of branches / wands typically stands for new opportunities, growth, and inspiration, which are all things that I want to bring into my new space and life.

I chose the scarlet macaw for this card after reading an article about how the scarlet macaws are being reintroduced into Los Tuxtlas, Veracruz. The Scarlet Macaws are native to this area but were going extinct due to poaching. However with the help of unam and the people living in the area, the scarlet macaws were reintroduced and are growing.

The tree is a “money tree” (Pachira aquatica ) native to the swamps of the Yucatán and other swampy parts of central and South America. The myth behind calling the tree the money tree is a poor man (who had been praying for money) came across the tree while walking. He never say a tree like it before and thought it was an omen from the gods. He took the tree with him and planted it at his house. He then made money from grewing the seeds and selling the new trees.
